An introductory visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of France to the City of Sarajevo

Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka received the Ambassador of the Republic of France to BiH, H.E. Guillaume Rousson today for an introductory visit.

At the very beginning, Mayor wished the newly appointed Ambassador a successful mandate and welcomed him to Sarajevo and BiH, expressing his hope that the good cooperation between the City of Sarajevo and the French Embassy will continue.

The participants of the meeting discussed the establishment of cooperation between the two cities, Sarajevo and Paris, especially in the field of culture.

Mayor Skaka received an introductory visit from Commander of NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General Robert Huston, to whom he expressed warm welcome and wished a successful mission.

We want you to feel pleasant in our city and to get to know unique things that Sarajevo has to offer, Mayor Skaka pointed out, by adding that tourism is in the focus of this City Administration and as such, is certainly one of the fastest growing industries in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last few years.

Commander Huston emphasized that NATO will continue to actively contribute to stability and security in the region, in line with the goals of its mission in BiH, as well as to improve quality of life of citizens.

Mayor Skaka expressed his wish that BiH should make progress and become member of NATO during the mandate of Commander Huston.

Intensify the Cooperation between Sarajevo and Bad Ischl

Deputy Mayors of the City of Sarajevo, Mr. Ivica Šarić and Milan Trivić received today the Mayor of Austrian City of Bad Ischl, Mr. Hannes Heide to which the City of Sarajevo has an ongoing partnership since 2 years.

The representatives from the two cities expressed their willingness to improve mutual friendly relations in accordance with the signed Agreement on Cooperation in all areas of interest for the citizens of the two cities, especially in the area of tourism, music, sport, museum and festival.

Similar history links the City of Sarajevo and the City of Bad Ischl. In Sarajevo, the assassination of heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne took place on June 28, 1914. A month later, on July 28, a manifesto called, To My Peoples was signed in Bad Ischl, announcing the beginning of the First World War. This historic connection between two cities was acknowledged by Agreement of Cooperation.

The former Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Mr. Ivo Komšić attended today’s reception, during his term of office the cooperation between the two cities was formalized.

The first posthumous retrospective exhibition titled: “Mersad Berber – The Allegory of Bosnia”, was opened in the City Hall this evening. This unique exhibition consisting of 35 paintings from the most important phases of this eminent painter, graphic artist and tapestry designer’s work, was held under the auspices of the member of BiH Presidency, Bakir Izetbegović, and co-sponsored by the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka and Berber family.

“You have here before you one of the most important art exhibitions of the last half century. It gives me great honour to be a patron of this unique cultural event which we are full heartedly presenting as a gift to all the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina”, said Izetbegović.

Mayor Skaka expressed his pleasure at Berber’s works being exhibited in the beautiful ambience of the reconstructed Sarajevo City Hall, an architectural pearl, worthy of the exhibited works by one of the most important Bosnian and Herzegovinian artists.

Members of Berber family were present at the exhibition opening as well as guests from political, public and cultural life of the city and country.

Citizens and guests from the city and the whole country will be able to visit the exhibition for the next two months.

Mayors of Sarajevo and Konya affirmed the good and strong cooperation between the two cities

The Mayor of the City of Sarajevo received today multimember delegation of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, headed by Mayor Tahir Akyürek and Honorary Consul of BiH in Konya, Ercan Uslu.

This was an opportunity to continue the agreements on mutual cooperation between the two cities, which have an ongoing partnership and friendly relations since 2007.

Mayor Skaka thanked the City Administration of Konya Metropolitan Municipality for the support recently provided to the City of Sarajevo, particularly for the improvement of utility infrastructure. In that regard, the emphasis was put on the donation of 20 trams that Konya Metropolitan Municipality delivered to Sarajevo GRAS Company.

Both parties agreed that the City of Sarajevo and Konya Metropolitan Municipality have good and strong relations in many areas, emphasizing the intensified cooperation in the fields of water supply and public transport.

Mayor Skaka received an introductory visit from Commander of EUFOR in BiH, Mayor General Anton Waldner. 

During the meeting, it was emphasized that EUFOR will continue to actively contribute to stability and security in the region, in line with the goals of its mission in BiH.

Considering the interest shown by Commander of EUFOR Waldner at today’s meeting, Mayor Skaka briefly informed him of the dynamics of building Trebevic cable car, the symbol of the City of Sarajevo and one of the most important infrastructural projects that this City Administration is currently running.

They also discussed the organization of various events and manifestations held under the patronage of the City of Sarajevo or in partnership with local and international cultural institutions and embassies, and their significant contribution to the rich touristic offer of Sarajevo, and to the cultural, social and economic prosperity of the BiH capital.
