At the regular meeting of the President of BiH Olympic Committee Marijan Kvesić, Vice Presidents of BiH Olympic Committee Izet Rađo and Siniša Kisić, Deputy Mayor of the city of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka, representatives of the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, and EYOF, it was concluded that great advances have been made in getting all levels of government involved in the organisation of European Youth Olympic Festival 2019. It was particularly encouraging that the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fadil Novalić voiced his support for the organisation of the biggest sports event after the Sarajevo Olympic Games in 1984. In that regard, it is expected that the Federal government will support the organisation of EYOF 2019 at one of its coming sessions, which would be another signal for the European Olympic Committee that all levels of BiH government are involved in the preparation of this important event.
In the past the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Presidency had confirmed that they would be the general sponsor of the event, which was a guarantee that the state is behind EYOF 2019. The BiH Council of Minister supported EYOF by bringing a conclusion that they would allocate two million BAM for this project of youth, sport and tourism.
The participants at the meeting assessed the readiness of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina to coordinate the activities of all levels of government with Minister Adil Osmanović at the helm, as positive. In that regard, it is expected that in 15 days time a document will be signed defining the rights and obligations of BiH government in the organisation of EYOF.
During their recent visit to Slovenia, the Presidency of BiH OC were given assurances from their Slovene friends that they are ready to provide all necessary support for successful organisation of EYOF in Sarajevo.
In line with these activities, it was concluded at the meeting that this was a great opportunity for all government structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina to show the ability to apply the principles of the coordination mechanism in a single joint project.
It was also confirmed that the BiH OC will very soon deliver a letter to the BiH Presidency to inform the members of Presidency about the activities carried out so far and the activities planned for the coming period.
At today’s meeting it was concluded that most conditions addressed to the BiH Olympic Committee by the European Olympic Committee have been met. It is realistic to expect that the EYOF 2019 host cities report will be positively evaluated at the next meeting of EOC, to be held on 20-21 May in the Spanish city Tarragona.
